Responsible world governments are deeply worried. Tensions between the U.S.A. and expansionist China appear to be threatening the stability of the world economy. Tensions have also heightened between the U.S.A. and an increasingly nationalistic Russia. Highly dangerous situations continue to be prominent in the Middle East, in the Korean peninsular, and in European nations bordering Russia. Consequently, peaceful coexistence between the world’s major powers is under threat. Furthermore, extremist Islamic terrorism can strike anywhere – even in Australia, as already experienced in an increasing number of nations.

United States and Russian intervention in the Syrian civil war with their opposing aims have brought their relationship to a point that has the potential for an all-out war between them that could result from their involvement with opposing Middle Eastern client states. The movement of NATO troops into nations bordering Russia further heightens tension between the western powers and Russia. These two situations have revived the dangerous “cold war” situation of former decades. These and other threats to world peace are leading to the curtailment of principles that have governed western democracies for decades. They have led to the election of “nationalistic” leaders and governments. These ominous developments have the potential to lead to more widespread ruinous warfare and the use of nuclear weaponry.

Apart from the foregoing “headline” tensions there are increasing areas of conflict in the world today. There can be no solution to these growing threats to world peace without the intervention of Almighty God and His righteousness. God’s inspired word, the Bible, predicts that the world will emerge from insoluble crisis to become a glorified and peaceful place. The Bible tells us repeatedly that Jesus Christ the Son of God will return to earth at a time of unprecedented crisis to establish God’s Kingdom. His incorruptibly righteous reign over the entire world will vanquish evil and achieve peace on earth.
