God’s promises hold out wonderful possibilities for us. They are detailed in the Old Testament, and confirmed and elaborated on in the New Testament. In fact they are described by the Apostle Peter as “great and precious. God’s promises to Abraham are described by the Apostle Paul as “the gospel”. These important comments stress their relevance for us today.

Many of God’s promises have been accurately fulfilled already. For example, the predictions of the birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension to heaven of Jesus Christ have been accurately fulfilled; and so has God’s promise that the Jews would be regathered to the Holy Land. There are now about 6.7 million Jews living in Israel, which is about the same as the total number of Jews living in all other counties of the world.

God’s promises to King David of Israel were confirmed to the virgin Mary by the angel Gabriel before the birth of Jesus and they predicted a royal role for him in Jerusalem that is still future to us today. These promises in the Bible, and many others, revolve around the returned Lord Jesus Christ and his future kingship of God’s Kingdom on this earth. Promises in the Bible about this Kingdom are numerous and we can be reassured of their fulfilment by the accurate fulfilment of those mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Life on this earth for the mortal subjects living under the infallible rulership of King Jesus and his immortal helpers will be just and peaceful. Wars and violence will be things of the past. The government of the world will be unerringly righteous. Life for the mortal subjects of this future kingdom will be longer and more satisfying – and willingly God-fearing. The whole earth will be more fertile, and so food and water shortages will also be things of the past. Promises of these blessed conditions will be fulfilled.
