Responsible world governments are deeply worried. The U.N. Secretary General has used the words “on the brink” to describe the current threats to world peace. A highly flammable situation pervades the deep enmity between the U.S.A and Iran. Other dangerous tensions continue to be prominent in the Middle East, with Russia and the U.S.A taking opposing sides. Tensions in the Korean peninsular and European nations bordering Russia that are affiliated to NATO continue to elude solution. Trade wars initiated by the U.S.A are threatening the world’s economy. Chinese economic and military expansionism is a cause of serious anxiety, particularly in our Asia/Pacific region. Grave social and economic inequalities between developed and developing nations persist and give rise to mass movements of peoples seeking better lives. The threat of extremist terrorism also persists as evident in Sri Lanka recently. These accumulating ominous developments have the potential to lead to more widespread ruinous warfare and even the use of nuclear weaponry.
There can be no solution to these growing threats to world peace without the exercise of the supremacy of Almighty God and His righteousness. God’s inspired word, the Bible, predicts that the world will emerge from perplexing and insoluble crisis to become a glorified and peaceful place. The Bible tells us repeatedly that Christ the Son of God will return to earth at a time of unprecedented crisis to establish God’s Kingdom. He will reign over the entire world, vanquish evil and achieve peace on earth. God’s word, the Bible, reveals the good news of the outcome of His intervention in world affairs.
